Our favorite rugged, sporty, car manufacturer, Jeep, creates some of the bestselling and most luxurious SUVs available today. Here at L.T. Begnal Motor Company, the largest Jeep model, the Grand Cherokee, is one of our top sellers and a favorite of our customers throughout the Kingston area.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a car-SUV crossover, which means it drives like a car but has the utility of an SUV. It has seating for up to five people, a cavernous cargo area, and two rows. But, best of all, this is an SUV that can actually do what an SUV should - take you to work on your daily commute and on off-road adventures.

Comparing the Jeep Grand Cherokee

As versatile and high-end as the Jeep Grand Cherokee is, the SUV crossover market is a crowded one and this car has a lot of competition. To help narrow your options and make your shopping experience a little easier, we here at L.T. Begnal Motor Company have compared the Grand Cherokee to a couple of its main competitors.

We hope this information helps you as you embark on your car-buying journey.

Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. the Ford Explorer

  • Transmission. Every Grand Cherokee comes standard with a powerful eight-speed automatic transmission. The Ford Explorer models don't even have an optional eight-speed. Every Explorer comes equipped with only a six-speed automatic.
  • Size. Although the Ford Explorer offers a third row of seating, compared to the Grand Cherokee's two rows, these two cars' overall measurements are very similar, which translates to a more spacious passenger cabin, since the automaker isn't trying to cram more seats into the same space.
  • Ground clearance. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has about an inch more ground clearance than the Explorer, which means it can handle changing weather, road conditions, and bumps more smoothly than the competition.

Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. the Honda Pilot

  • Size. If size matters to you, then you may want to take a closer look before diving into the Honda Pilot. While both the Grand Cherokee and the Pilot offer a spacious interior with comfortable seating areas and plenty of cargo space, the Pilot is not a small crossover. With three rows and a large on-road presence, the Pilot isn't as easy to drive or maneuver crossover Grand Cherokee.
  • Transmission. As previously mentioned, every Grand Cherokee model comes with a standard eight-speed automatic. Drivers have to go all the way up to the most expensive upper trims of the Honda Pilot before they can get a transmission this powerful.
  • Cargo space. With all of its seats in place, the Grand Cherokee gives drivers 36.3 cubic feet of storage. Meanwhile, the Honda Pilot only offers up 16 cubic feet with its seats all in place.
